As               the               Iraq               war               comes               to               a               close               with               the               final               pullout               of               US               combat               troops,               it               ends               in               a               victory               for               the               US,               not               the               defeat               or               quagmire               so               often               predicted               by               Democrats.

In               fact,               Vice               President               Biden               had               this               to               say               a               few               months               ago:               "I               am               very               optimistic               about               Iraq,"               said               Biden.

"I               mean,               this               could               be               one               of               the               great               achievements               of               this               administration.

You're               going               to               see               90,000               American               troops               come               marching               home               by               the               end               of               the               summer.

You're               going               to               see               a               stable               government               in               Iraq               that               is               actually               moving               toward               a               representative               government."
Just               for               fun,               let's               see               what               then               Senator               Biden               had               to               say               in               2007               when               the               surge               (which               brought               the               victory)               was               being               debated:
"We               should               stop               the               surge               and               start               bringing               our               troops               home.

We               should               end               a               political               strategy               in               Iraq               that               cannot               succeed               and               begin               one               that               can."
Senator               Obama               echoed               the               same               sentiment:
               "...

we               have               now               set               the               bar               so               low               that               modest               improvement               in               what               was               a               completely               chaotic               situation,               to               the               point               where               now               we               just               have               the               levels               of               intolerable               violence               that               existed               in               June               of               2006,               is               considered               success.

And               it's               not.

This               continues               to               be               a               disastrous               foreign               policy               mistake."
And               let's               not               forget               good               ol'               Harry               Reid:               "I               believe               ...

that               this               war               is               lost,               and               this               surge               is               not               accomplishing               anything,               as               is               shown               by               the               extreme               violence               in               Iraq               this               week".

Of               course               when               he               said               that,               the               surge               had               not               even               started.

But               why               let               a               few               facts               get               in               the               way?
And               remember               how               General               Petraeus               was               called               General               "Betray               Us"               in               a               full               page               ad               in               the               NY               Times               by               moveon.org?
Of               course,               now               Petraeus               is               a               hero               to               the               media               since               he               has               been               put               in               charge               of               Afghanistan               by               President               Obama               (see               here).
By               the               way,               I               thought               Iraq               was               going               to               be               the               next               Vietnam?

Everything               would               descend               into               a               quagmire?

Guess               that               didn't               happen               either.
Did               President               Bush               make               mistakes               in               the               war               in               Iraq?

Yes.

Some               major               ones.

But               if               we               are               going               to               saddle               him               with               those               mistakes,               then               he               also               deserves               to               be               credited               with               reversing               course               and               devising               a               winning               strategy               with               the               surge.

That               strategy               was               opposed               by               the               Democratic               party               -               including               Biden               and               Obama               -               and               for               them               to               now               claim               credit               for               the               victory               that               resulted               from               it               is               hypocritical               to               say               the               least.
               One               last               point.

Obama               said               in               a               recent               speech               regarding               the               original               debate               over               the               Iraq               war               that               "there               has               never               been               any               daylight               between               us               when               it               comes               to               supporting               the               more               than               one               million               Americans               in               uniform               have               served               in               Iraq-far               more               than               any               conflict               since               Vietnam."
               That               simply               is               NOT               true:
"If               I               read               this               to               you               and               did               not               tell               you               that               it               was               an               FBI               agent               describing               what               Americans               had               done               to               prisoners               in               their               control,               you               would               most               certainly               believe               this               must               have               been               done               by               Nazis,               Soviets               in               their               gulags               or               some               mad               regime               -               Pol               Pot               or               others               -               that               had               no               concern               for               human               beings"               -               Dick               Durbin
"...there               is               no               reason,               Bob,               that               young               American               soldiers               need               to               be               going               into               the               homes               of               Iraqis               in               the               dead               of               night,               terrorizing               kids               and               children,               you               know,               women,               breaking               sort               of               the               customs               of               the               --               of               --               of               --               of               --               historical               customs,               religious               customs,               whether               you               like               it               or               not.

Iraqis               should               be               doing               that."               -               John               Kerry
I               guess               to               be               fair,               I               have               to               assume               Obama               did               not               hear               what               those               two               men               said               on               the               Senate               floor.

After               all,               he               sat               in               Reverend               Wright's               church               for               20               years               and               missed               everything               he               said!
To               our               troops               in               Iraq               who               fought               courageously               and               tirelessly               to               achieve               victory,               I               say               THANK               YOU!!!
