Republican               presidential               nominee               John               McCain               is               trying               to               keep               his               advisors               out               of               501(c)(4)               as               well               as               527               groups,               which               Vets               for               Freedom               falls               under               the               former.

John               McCain               has               had               advisors               Senator               Joe               Lieberman               of               Connecticut               and               South               Carolina               Senator               Lindsey               Graham               disconnect               themselves               on               Wednesday,               May               28,               from               Vets               for               Freedom,               which               has               run               ads               criticizing               Illinois               Senator               Barack               Obama               for               not               visiting               Iraq               since               January               2006               nor               meeting               with               General               David               Patraeus               to               discuss               the               recent               developments               in               Iraq.

John               McCain               has               "campaign               guidelines"               which               don't               allow               anyone               with               a               campaign               title               to               be               affiliated               with               501(c)(4)               or               527               groups               which               take               sides               in               an               election               for               or               against               someone               running,               such               as               the               Swift               Boat               Veterans               for               Truth               of               2004               did               against               Senator               John               Kerry.

This               is               according               to               a               May               29               FoxNews.com               article               McCain's               Strict               Rules               About               Such               Affiliations               Shouldn't               Hurt               Him               In               His               Quest
In               my               view,               the               least               of               John               McCain's               problems               are               making               sure               his               staffers               don't               have               connections               to               501(c)(4)               or               527               groups               like               Vets               for               Freedom.

Those               groups               are               going               to               do               what               they               want               to               anyway               to               get               the               word               out               for               or               against               a               candidate,               which               will               influence               certain               people               when               they               decide               on               either               Barack               Obama               or               John               McCain.

John               McCain               doesn't               need               his               own               people               who               are               working               closely               with               him               to               get               him               elected               to               the               presidency               to               align               themselves               with               groups               that               make               independent               political               action               ads               criticizing               Barack               Obama.

501(c)(4)               and               527               groups               will               do               their               own               thing               with               or               without               the               support               of               a               Presidential               candidate               and               his               staffers.
Sure,               Barack               Obama               can               chide               John               McCain               in               public               for               having               two               staffers               like               Joe               Lieberman               and               Lindsey               Graham               connected               to               such               a               group               like               Vets               for               Freedom,               and               it               will               make               some               voters               think               that               the               Arizona               Senator               is               a               hypocrite               because               I               myself               have               heard               him               say               on               tv               that               he               wants               a               campaign               of               issues.

Yet               when               501(c)(4)               or               527               groups               get               involved,               it               seems               that               some               of               their               ads               are               slimy.

But               the               fact               that               the               two               John               McCain               advisors               disconnected               themselves               early               on               from               the               Vets               for               Freedom               group               is               better               than               waiting               when               the               general               election               gets               into               full               swing.
I               watched               two               ads               by               the               group               on               Youtube               here               and               here.
So               ironically,               while               they               criticize               Barack               Obama,               they               don't               openly               endorse               either               candidate               for               the               President               of               the               United               States.

Still,               it's               best               that               both               John               McCain               and               Barack               Obama               keep               their               staffers               out               of               these               kinds               of               political               action               groups               to               avoid               bringing               unnecessary               controversy               on               themselves!
